Summer Workshop

Wanted to tell something to all the present school-going Dynamix Members. This workshop is very very very important for us. There's a quote saying "First impression is the last impression". And this venture, being the first one after the "biggies" has left out, is an opportunity, and a necessity too, for us to make it big.
But unfortunately, things are not moving according to my plan. Not even 30% of the planning has been done and what I can figure out is an disappointed Uma(Link). Huh. Now, if we want to make this event really upto the mark(which none of the Dynamix event by now has been), kindly pay heed to what I say.

My points regarding the event:
Subject:
My opinion is, rather than tutoring the Illustrator, why not go for the famous Photo-shop. Everyone knows this application, at least, and I think many a people will be interested if we plan to impart the grass-root level knowledge of the software. It is not just an suggestion, it is an important too. I have talked to my fellow classmates and not surprisingly, 100 percent of them(whom I asked) has voted for the photoshop.

Date:
Although 90% chances are those of 20th may, but please confirm it to me.

Venue:
Very important. In these scorching summmers, no one would like to burn. Therefore, an air-conditioned lab is a must. Tell me which one you would go for?

Strength:
Again, very important. Unlike Pandey Sir, strength matters the most. We are not conducting this event just to have it quoted in the achievements section of the Dynamix catalogue(ever heard of it?). Tell me well in advance, how much students you would like to take care of?

Answer these three very basic and very important questions first. And then, I'll let you know more of my plans based upon your replies. Revert back ASAP.

Regards
(Siddharth Razdan)

Note:
1) I know this is a kinda aggerssive style, but I like it this way.
2) This is a post-dated-post till 20th may. Do not tamper with it.

Asking why use Illustrator when you can use Photoshop is like asking why use a dishwasher when you can use a washing machine.Photoshop and Illustrator are two totally different graphic softwares with two totally different uses and applications (See, this is exactly the kind of ignorance that I want to remove with this workshop).

I don't see what more planning we require. The date has been fixed(Its 20th May.I will not be changing the dates now),
The time has been fixed.I have already said I'd go to the school myself and do the installing and stuff and that I am
not asking anybody for any help in this matter(This workshop is completely my responsibility). It is obvious that the workshop'll be held at DynamiX Headquarters AKA The Intel Lab.This is all the planning that we need, in my opinion.

The more the merrier in the matter of attendence .Technically we have 16 computers (right?) so 16 people should be comfortable but since it will not be much of a hands-on workshop(I have got so little time and so much to teach there won't be much time left for people to try what they have learnt.I do not like this but I've got no choice) couple of people can even share a computer. But I'd be glad if even 8 or 9 people turned up.

Shashank,I know no good might come out of this but if and when you find time please ask the other ex-dynamites if they care to attend this workshop, if you will.Talk to Roshan, Som, Ankur, Rahul Seth and any other person you see fit.I am not insisting that they come. This is just a mere courtsey.Since none of these people are regular on the blog I doubt that they have even heard of this workshop.

So, does your above statement implies that I(and others, in general) should be carefree and the only thing we are supposed to do about this workshop is to turn up straight on 20th?

I thought I could help you. As I am regularly going to school, you'll benefit in:-
1) Advertisment - A notice on the notice board inviting the students to register themselves for the workshop/talking to the classmates to come.
2) Installation
3) Talking to the Principal ma'am/other fleet of Sir's for the refreshments and stuff.
4) Miscellaneous

Note: Do not worry Uma. The whole credit for this workshop will go to you and only you. I was surprised when I had an insight into your attitude today(And pardon me for this).

The point on which I am emphasising is, this workshop must look professional.

1) Anyway Uma, write an invitation E-Mail which could be sent to those, interested. I, and I know others too, have the ID's of our fellow classmates, and therefore, it'll help us a lot. And before you write it, do have a chat with Pandey Sir and enlist the entire details for the event. If possible, get a few print-out(s) and at least, distribution, I can do.

2) I suppose there's an AC in teachers centre too. I think we should occupy that(as we did it in Dynamix Respawned). You can teach using projector then.

3) Design a really nice logo for this workshop.

I'll talk to these guys..

I don't think Uma's words reflect her unhappiness on anyone *stealing the credit*. She's just wondering: what's there to make such a lot of fuss about?

I think if Sid and other guys are eager to help, go ahead.. what's the harm?

Yeah, you just need to a) fix a date & time, b) inform the school about your intentions c) pull in as many students as possible d) install software and decide on course material. That's all that go into conducting workshops..

Let me save a little bit of our ex-DX pride and point out that our March 2005 workshops did infact start off well, progress well, and end with a resounding bang (literally.. it was a gaming workshop in the end). That was indeed a success.

Please do not mistake me.When I say the workshop is my reponsibility I do not have any ulterior motive of credit or anything. Why on earth do you feel that I am the sort of person who thinks being helped by people makes his glory diminish or something.I feel that you guys are doing more than enough already by just agreeing to come and I did not want to burden any of you with further responsibilities. Moreover I do not want any of you to have trouble with your parents.Coming for a three hour workshop is fine.Staying back to do all the work(And I tell you ,installation is the most monotenous, time consuming, brain wrecking work I have experianced when it comes to organizing anything)is not. And I wanted to make the fact clear that I won't say "None of you helped me" later because I do not expect you to or even want you to.That's all.

This workshop is a very informal event(In its treatment that is).I do not think formalities like logos, formal invitations are needed. But if you look for participants just by word-of-mouth than I'll be most grateful.Be careful
about whom you invite though.I don't want people who'd just turn up to have a good time and ruin mine.

I wanted to raise the issue of projectors. The idea of holding the 'shop in the teacher's room is fine except the fact that there is only one computer in there (I think).

As for refreshments I don't think I will have it as I have said earlier.

But all these discussion are pointless unless more people agree to come...

OK Thanks Shashank
The main winning factor in the last year's workshop was the participation (Apart from the brilliant teaching that is)
I cannot promise a good workshop unless I have that kind of participation.
Yes and Sid if you want to willingly help me I'd be very thankful.I am sure you would have discerned as much from my last speech :-)

Guys please confirm me the timings for the workshop. I can't come in the afternoon. So fix the it in the morning and please make sure there is some enjoyement in the end like gaming competetions ( it will attract the attention of the students). I asked Shakti to join DynamiX but he is not interested in it this year.... Dunno about Stefan.. Catcha later...

The timings are 8.30 am .I'd try and finish the 'shop by 12.00 o'clock. If you want a gaming tournament in the end you
yourself would be dragging your time in the school into the late afternoon. It's up to you what you want to do after the workshop.Talk to Prashanth.I would have contacted him through mail myself but I am not sure how often he checks his inbox.
