FragFest Picking Up

Yeah, FF is really getting good reviews among the students. Who doesn't like to play games? :-) Even a person like Roshan .. ermm. *likes* Unreal. No offense. hehe

Yeah, so I talked to a couple of guys at school as to what they'd think of a free-for-all, gun-decides event. And they loved it. Here are the most prominent of the questions that were asked of me. Oh first, here's a rough schedule:

Now for the questions:

1) When? Please don't make it clash with any tests etc.
2) What games?
3) Can I bring my own comp?

There were a lot of other questions, but I answered them and they're trivial like how's the structure etc..

Answers (probably)
1) See, 11th class (that includes me and most of the organizers)have chem pracs on 19 & 20 Jan. This is the real tricky part.. my main worry. I have a slightly ermm.. clever idea. See, the farewell's on the 29th or 30th. So around the 25th onwards 11th will be in anarchy (kind of) and we can capitalize on that and organize FF somewhere around that time. We have to do it on a weekday since most ppl won't prefer to wake out of their cosy beds on a holiday. ;-)

2) We have to have a variety of games. And that doesn't mean just FPS (first person shooter eg: ut), and since this is quite a small event, we can have ut 2k3 as the knockout game for both seniors and juniors. And all batches have to have the same games. So essentially we have to modify the Final Challenge game. I have Tribes 2 (legally distributable copy) full, but its a team game and we can't have that. I was wondering if we can have Soldier of Fortune or some other war game. But again, war games take too much time to master. Hmm.. the easiest option is: NFS for knockout, and UT for final. Just like Dy 2k5. But i'm really not it favor of that, simply 'coz NFS supports only 8 at a time. If we can have a great racing game which can have unlimited (if not that, atleast more than 20) at a time, then its something to be considered.

3) I made no commitments on that aspect. Obviously ppl (including me) would like to get their own powerful beast for a gaming event, but then we don't have enuf ports available on the hub (enuf? we have only 2 empty, which i suspect are empty 'coz they don't work). And if we try to purchase a new hub, the event becomes expensive, and I want to keep it on a very very low budget. but no compromise on quality. The Budget can be increased if necessary. So I think we shud say nay to personal computers. Okay?

Lets get the other members on the blog. And now that we're expanding the club, (the 3 deputies have expressed interest in learning graphics and programming! that's a victory for us)

More soon

I saw the rough schedule of FF, and it looks quite fine, a half hour each for each event. In the Imagine Cup, is there the visual gaming stuff or some kind of speech / seminar on it?
As you say about UT and NFS, I think they have been used to often and we should try something other than FPS and racing genre.
Like, I have Harry Potter 3 (legally distributable copy)and it is quite (maybe the best) in the strategy and action genre, or FIFA for team matches.
Concerning the PC issue, if it is quite uncomfy with the current hub, it's a "nay" from my side too ;-)

HP! No way. We can't have team games here. Maybe in the future. And most ppl don't play games that have a lot of strategy. Racing, FIFA, Cricket are the rage here. And FPS is like the real test of a gamer's reflex. Maybe not UT. We can try RTCW (wolfenstein latest) multiplayer. And we can try Hot Pursuit or something. Does HP work with more than 8 players at a time?

I had a couple of other ideas too:

1) We can have a discussion (session) in the hall or wherever they're seated on how mods are made. Mods = Modifications i.e new maps, new skins, new game modes. I'm sure you all know that the ever-popular online game: Counter-strike, is not actually a game, but a mod of Half Life. :-)

2) We can have an audience only quiz-type thing called test your GQ: Gaming Quotient. And the winner of that gets something too.

Lets get it all planned quickly. I'll talk to MS after we get the initial hurdles sorted out. And please suggest dates.

Nah, I don't think HP is the LAN game, I will check. It has the same kind of reflex and pointing shooter like UT , though you have to shoot spells.
It will be a good change from UT if it has LAN games, I will check that.

Hey, International Gaming Olympics is not conducted by us. LOL! Its THE *International Computer Gaming Olympics*, the sort of Olympics we have worldwide, where top gamers from each country are sent to battle it out in a huge arena. Its a sort of our (regular school LAN game party)^n (^ = raised to power). Actually, its not called Olympics, its The World Cyber Games.

Thousands of gamers flock the place and the ultimate winner country are the winners. Check out http://www.worldcybergames.com/

And India doesn't do extremely well simply because of lack of awareness. So we'll be telling ppl about the WCG, and show them the promo video etc...

i've always wanted to participate in WCG, but i'm not skillful enuf. :((

-scrolls up- Come on, Somshubro, I saw the Minimum Requirements on the back of HP3, it says 16MB 3d card, and if you still had probs, maybe we should write to EA and tell them to revise the written content lol.

er...there are no quidditch matches or hit-voldemort-level in HP3
by the way, isn't the purpose of UT almost same...shooting the shit out of the others (or shooting the butt) ?
Anyway, stop this debate and start thinking on the plans for FF.
See ya later, dudes.
